North York is a suburban neighbourhood in the northern part of Toronto. It extends from the Humber River in the west to Victoria Park Avenue in the east, and from Steeles Avenue E in the north to Northline Road in the south. The neighbourhood is actually made up of a number of smaller neighbourhoods that each have their own distinct sense of community. The neighbourhood is great for families, as there are numerous activities and events to keep kids busy and entertained.

There is plenty to do in North York for people of all ages. Those looking for shopping opportunities have a few choices. Yorkdale Shopping Centre in the southern section of the neighbourhood is home to over 270 shops and services. Residents can shop for clothing, accessories, gifts, footwear, beauty products, home furnishings and décor items, entertainment and technology goods, books, and sporting goods. Services include banking, salons, healthcare, optical, shoe repair, tailoring, and a post office. CF Fairview Mall in the eastern section of the neighbourhood has over 170 stores and services, a movie theatre, and a food court. Those interested in sports can head to the Aviva Centre, a multipurpose sports and entertainment complex with a stadium, multiple tennis courts, a large gymnasium, meeting rooms, and an outdoor entertainment area. Events held at the centre include tennis matches, basketball games, indoor rowing competitions, fencing competitions, university convocation ceremonies, concerts, and filming sessions for television and movies.

The most common housing types in North York are apartments and detached single-family homes, although there are also some other dwelling types available.

SCHOOLS

Examples of schools in North York include Rockford Public School, Pleasant Public School, Wilmington Elementary School, Sheppard Public School, Armour Heights Public School, North Toronto Christian School, Rene Gordon Elementary School, Owen Public School, Earl Haig Secondary School, Windfields Jr. High School, and Newtonbrook Secondary School.


There are a number of post-secondary institutions in the neighbourhood, including Seneca College, Academy of Learning College, McLaughlin College, Medix College, Dominion College, CDI College, Stanford College, and York University.


PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

Because the neighbourhood covers such a large area, there are numerous Toronto Transit Commission routes to choose from. These include regular bus routes and streetcar routes. The Barrie GO, Union Pearson Express, and Richmond Hill GO services also run through the neighbourhood, as do the 1 - Yonge-University and 4 - Sheppard subway lines. Routes running through the neighbourhood provide access to other areas of Toronto, as well as surrounding communities.
